It’s the Clay Court Season

So the clay court season, Rafa’s obvious favorite, has begun! And I’m loving the blue-gray ensemble he’s rocking on the ubiquitous orange clay. [Thank you, Rafael Nadal Fans, for this picture.]

I’ve been a fan since 2004, I think, when he was still rocking that unconventional long shorts (a capri!) and short sleeves ensemble. And that makes it more than a decade of fangirling! Wow. If it’s a relationship, we’d hit a really great milestone.

And so to kick off this Clay Court season, I’m sharing this article from FTW, USA Today that details why Rafael Nadal is the King of Clay.

I just have to post this convo with a fellow tennis fan while watching the First Rafael Nadal Match of the French Open 2013 last Monday because it’s damn funny.  For anonymity and because he claims that his “life is not for public consumption”, I’m using J as his initial. Here it goes:

A: Waaah! Hahaha si RF periwinkle. Sino mas gurl? ‘Di naman pink ‘yun, eh. Horangeh.

J: Hang horenge ‘yung clay. So fink ‘yung nyortz. Gurl. Tapos talo ng 1st set. Gurl ‘yun.

A: Kaines! Hmp. At least di periwinkle. Tapos blue band? Ano yun? Hahaha Nag-away sa outfit.

J: Rafa for day. Ela at night (Rafaela). Dalagang-dalaga na sa fink.

A: Hahaha wala akong pakialam kung gay. I love the gays! Hahaha

J: So with finky Rafa… Ela pala. Tapos hila nang hila sa string bikini n’ya. sana ate wag mag-string pag may laro.

A: Hahahaha OCD nga, eh. May OCD! Sinabi na nga ni Uncle Tony. It’s his OCD. Bawal manood!!!

J: Ano’ng happen, ate? Bakit di pagbutihin ang laro? Unang round ganyan?

A: Dinadasalan mo, eh. Wag kumukontra!

J: Bakit alam mong dinadasalan ko? Galing mo talaga. Talo ‘yan first round pa lang.

A: Kasi gusto mo manalo si The Fed. Pampalakas-loob. Mukhang magre-retire na.

J: Well, retiring gracefully but not with injury.

A: Hahaha

A: Hahahaha eh matador nga! Sir, we seriously need to go to Shanghai. Para na tayong baliw. Hahaha

J: Oo nga. Kahit ‘di watch sa Shanghai. Alamin lang saan ang hotel nila. Then matulog sa elevator lobby. Korek ba ‘yun?

A: Pwede Ang galing mo.

Pelikula?

A: Kainis ka. Frenemies pala ang peg natin? Pwes.

Kaya go na to Shanghai.

A: Haha Sabagay. Sige, go na.

Harharhar… joke!

A: Hmp! Sige, magsama kayo ng Brands mong nakapang-basketball shorts!

J: Tignan mo, namamansin ka rin. Two in one tawag doon, pati height pang-basketball.

A: Hehehe Dapat sa NBA syaaaaaaaa!

Rafa’s Back!

This is a bit late as the first tournament he joined was the VTR Open in Chile last week. He was denied the title, losing in the finals. But it was okay. At least he’s back. I’ve got a reason to follow tennis again.

I am looking forward to the first Rafa-The Fed game after Rafa went on hiatus for his knee injury. I don’t know but when these two gentlemen are playing, it’s way better than any game of Djoke or Andy. When it’s Rafa and The Fed on court, it’s all about the game of tennis. These two respect the game and their opponents like they should. I just enjoy watching them play. It’s either that or I just really hate Djoker’s guts, and starting to hate Andy’s too.

The next tour he’s joining is at Sao Paulo, Brazil. Can’t wait for the French Open! And really wishing I can see him in Thailand for the Bangkok Open. Wishful thinking. 🙂
